The formula
What actually drives the price
1 Chargeable weight
Whichever is greater: what the parcel actually weighs, or what it takes up in the van. A pillow and a paving slab cost different amounts to move even at the same weight.

2 Distance and zone
Within one city costs less than across the country. Each lane has a base rate, a rate per kilometre beyond a free radius, and a rate per kilogram above the bracket floor.
3 Speed
The service you choose multiplies the freight figure. Economy is cheaper than standard; same-day costs more because it displaces other work.

A worked example
A 4 kg box, 40 × 30 × 25 cm, Northgate to Harbour District, standard service.
- Actual weight
- 4 kg
- Volumetric weight
- (40 × 30 × 25) ÷ 5,000 = 6 kg
- Chargeable weight
- 6 kg — the greater of the two
From there the engine applies the lane's base rate, the per-kilogram rate above the bracket floor, the distance charge beyond the free radius, then the service multiplier — and lists each one on your quote.
